Bringing Missouri S&T to St. Louis
Corporate and Professional Education in and for Saint Louis is an offering by Missouri S&T College of Engineering and Computing for graduate-level courses for professionals in St. Louis, Missouri. The university launched some of these offerings a few years ago but this is a comprehensive site covering all offerings from master's degrees, graduate certificates, quick courses, and tailored programs.

What I did
What I did
I helped design and implement the degrees, certificates, quick courses, and tailored program pages. I helped design and implement other pages as well. We use Terminalfour, a higher education CMS platform.

No time to slow down
No time to slow down
This project was in a very intense timeline to get finished. It required all three of the designers on our team (myself included) to drop what we were working on and work on this. We had a student worker help out with the "people" page as well.

Our approach
Our approach
Since this project was get it done as fast as possible, we didn't have time for any research or testing. We constantly communicated with the associate dean who is heading up this offering. We mainly used emails to communicate and shared the dev site URL so he could view our work in real-time. Something we don't usually do but this was a rare use case.
We split up the work and I took on the heaviest load of work, copying over all of the courses from Google Docs to the live site. Another designer (who works as a UX Engineer most of the time) set up the site's structure and got the ball rolling. The other designer did the rest of the work we didn't cover.

Before we could launch the site, the associate dean needed to present the site to university leadership for approval before launching. Once the chancellor approved the site with some changes needed, for reasons I'll list below, we launched the site.

Handing it off
Handing it off
Since Missouri S&T is a part of the University of Missouri System, we needed to be careful not to overstep and compete with UMSL.
After ensuring we weren't competing with UMSL, we launched the site after final approval from leadership. When handing off the site, we give designated content authors (picked by the department's leadership) who go through our Terminalfour training to keep the site updated.
We will step in and handle any big updates.

What I would do different
What I would do different
This project is interesting to reflect on and try to find how I would work differently. I would have loved to be able to slow down a bit and be able to do some research or testing to see how we could improve the site.
